Planning tooth alignment
03Braces & orthodontic consultation
Braces move teeth gradually. A useful consultation looks beyond straightness to the bite, jaw development, gum health, cavities, X-rays, and the long-term retention plan. A final timeline and price should follow complete records—not a quick visual guess.

What happens during care
4 clear stages
- 01
Orthodontic consultation
The dentist reviews your concern, growth, bite, oral health, and whether you are ready for active treatment.
- 02
Records and diagnosis
Photos, measurements, models or scans, and appropriate X-rays help define the actual problem and treatment goals.
- 03
Written treatment plan
The plan should explain the appliance, estimated timeline, visits, likely limitations, payment structure, and whether extractions are being considered.
- 04
Active care and retention
Braces are adjusted regularly. After active movement, a retainer helps hold the new tooth positions.

What can change the plan, price, or duration
What a clear quote should explain.
- 1
Teeth and gums should be healthy enough before braces begin.
- 2
Ask whether X-rays, extractions, monthly adjustments, emergency repairs, and retainers are included in the package.
- 3
Treatment can take longer when appointments are missed, brackets break, or the case is more complex than first expected.
Common questions
Braces consultation
Can you confirm the braces price from a photo?
A photo can start a conversation, but records and an examination are needed to estimate complexity, timeline, and a responsible fee.
How often are adjustment visits?
Many fixed-braces plans use review visits around every six to eight weeks, but your dentist sets the interval for your case.
Is a retainer optional?
Retention is an important stage because teeth can move after braces are removed. The type and wear schedule are part of the treatment plan.
