Preventive dental care

Checkups & professional cleaning

A checkup looks for concerns you may not feel yet. Cleaning removes plaque and hardened tartar that brushing cannot fully reach. The dentist first checks whether a routine cleaning or a deeper gum-care plan is appropriate.

When this service may be discussed

Checkups & cleaning

  • A first visit or a routine oral-health review
  • Visible tartar, persistent bad breath, or gums that bleed
  • Checking an area that feels sensitive before it becomes more complicated
  • Building a practical cleaning and home-care schedule

What happens during care

4 clear stages

  1. 01

    Conversation first

Tell the dentist about pain, sensitivity, bleeding, medical history, and what you want help with.

  2. 02

    Oral examination

The dentist checks the teeth, gums, bite, and visible soft tissues. An X-ray is recommended only when it adds useful information.

  3. 03

    Cleaning when suitable

Scaling removes plaque and tartar; polishing smooths the tooth surfaces. Heavy buildup or gum disease may require a deeper plan.

  4. 04

    Clear follow-up

You receive practical home-care advice and an explanation of anything that may need monitoring or treatment.

What can change the plan, price, or duration

What a clear quote should explain.

  1. 1

An examination and a cleaning are related, but they are separate clinical decisions.

  2. 2

Deep cleaning may be priced by area and may need more than one appointment.

  3. 3

X-rays, fluoride, or other preventive care are added only when appropriate and should be confirmed before treatment.

Common questions

Checkups & cleaning

Will scaling weaken my teeth?

Scaling removes plaque and hardened tartar from tooth surfaces. It does not remove healthy tooth structure.

Do I need an X-ray at every checkup?

No. The dentist considers your symptoms, history, age, and previous images before recommending one.

Why might cleaning cost more than the routine range?

Heavy tartar, gum disease, stains, deeper cleaning, or several treatment areas can require more time and care.

A personal plan starts with an examination

Let the clinic understand your case first.

Bring your questions. The dentist can examine the area, explain suitable options, and prepare a clearer treatment plan and quote.
